The mud volcanoes, towering cliffs and amazing wildlife of the Vashlovani State Reserve and National Park are something no traveler can forget - think Africa, not Eastern Europe. The arid valleys are home to rare reptiles and rich birdlife, as well as herds of gazelle, lynx, wolf, wild boar, jungle cat, porcupine and Georgia’s only remaining leopards. The savannah-like vegetation gives way to the winding Iori River and seems to melt into the horizon.
The reserve contains many rare plants including a unique virgin forest of junipers, as well as Georgian plural barberries, wild pomegranate, Georgian iris and Eichler Tulip The National Park contains fully equipped sleeping cabins, a ranger service and tourist information centre.
Visit the area in early spring to see the desert completely carpeted with an almost psychedelic array of wild flowers.
Flora: Arid sparse growth of trees. Composition - pistachio-tree, carecass, etc.
Fauna: Wild boar, stripy hyena, badger, fox, hare, partridge, giurza
.Diverse environment promises an unforgettable journey.
